MARGAO: Opposition Leader Digambar Kamat on Tuesday alleged that the government is torturing the common man by increasing the fuel prices despite the low crude prices in the international market.

Digambar also demanded that the government release a white paper on the current financial status of the State and on COVID-19 pandemic.

“The petrol prices in Goa have gone up by almost Rs 5.47 per litre and diesel prices by Rs 5.80 per litre in the last 10 days despite the fact that the international crude oil prices are at all-time low. The government is torturing the common man with these steep hikes in fuel prices. People will not hesitate to come on roads if the government continues with its insensitive approach towards the common man,” warned Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat.

“People have faced hardships and pains during the lockdown of COVID-19 pandemic. Various people have lost their jobs and many companies have cut the salaries of their employees. The marginal sector has also suffered due to stoppage of business activities. People are expecting financial help from the government, but the insensitive BJP government is acting just the opposite, adding to the woes of the people,” criticised the Opposition Leader.

The Congress and the Opposition have time and again demanded that the government should release a white paper on the current financial status of Goa and COVID-19 Pandemic. The government is deliberately ignoring the demand of the Opposition.

“It is important that the government places facts and figures before the people at the earliest, failing which people under panic may resort to taking up strong agitation against the government for which the BJP government will be solely responsible,” warned Kamat.

“Reminding the current government about the promise made by the then BJP government in 2016 that petrol prices will never go up above Rs 60 per litre in the State, Kamat has questioned the present government whether the said promise was an Election Jumla?” questioned Kamat.
