Govt undertakes structural audit of primary schools

PANJIM: The State government has undertaken the structural and non-structural audit of all government primary schools and also aided primary schools for the safety of students.
The PWD (Building Section) assistant engineers have been asked to undertake the structural and on-structural audit of the all government primary schools and also to inspect the government aided primary schools and to submit their reports within a fortnight.
In all, seven PWD assistant engineers have been deputed for the work as per the monitoring and implementation of the National Disaster Management guidelines on school safety policy.
Assistant District Education Inspectors (ADEI) have been asked to coordinate with the assistant engineers to identify the primary schools in their respective areas and to provide all required assistance.
The assistant engineers will assess the present status of the government primary school buildings particularly the strength of the structure and submit their recommendations to the government for immediate remedial and preventive measures. The buildings which require repairs, the same will be carried out while, the weak buildings will be razed and rebuilt, the official sources said.
Similarly, the private school managements will be asked to repair their buildings so as to ensure safety of students.  
There are 742 government primary schools and 282 government-aided primary schools across the State, the sources said adding that if required the 15 days period will be extended to complete the work.
During Cyclone Tauktae in May and the recent floods due to incessant rains is learnt to have caused damages to both — government primary and aided school buildings. Though schools are shut due to pandemic there are reports that roofs of many schools have been damaged causing rainwater leakages in the classrooms. Also walls have suffered damages due to leaking roof.
