MARGAO: Stating that the state of art feed production unit has assumed sick appearance and products that produced in the plant are poor in quality John Barreto, dairy farmer from Benaulim, urged to check the concentrated feed supplied by the Goa Dairy.
He has submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Registrar of Co-Operative Societies, and also marked the copies to the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and other concerned authorities.
He said that for the last few years Goa State Co-Operative Milk Producers Union Limited (Goa Dairy) is in news, unfortunately more for negative reasons like corruption, manipulations, illegal recruitments, losses, protests and political high handedness.
John urged to explain what efforts have been taken to fix the responsibilities of losses and measures taken for non-occurrence of the failures with regard to new lows in milk procurements and sales.
“Goa Dairy’s financial condition is critically bad. A major reason for this is highly paid, underutilised excess manpower. Reduction of manpower should have been an immediate action plan for administration of Goa Dairy. Unfortunately the administration of Goa Dairy has recently recruited about 32 permanent employees without even following normal office procedure”, he alleged.
John further alleged that the recruitment has been done to please the political boss of the government appointed administrative committee.
“Goa Dairies Animal Health Department was always a big and reliable support to the milk farmers, but recently this department is marginalised by administration systematically. Veterinary doctors are without vehicles, essential medicines are out of stock, and procedures to request medicines even in emergency situations are complicated and illogical. Has Goa Dairy’s administrative committee changed its mandate?” he questioned.
As claimed by him, the feed plant has a captive market of milk farmers associated with Goa Dairy. But poor quality of product has caused a 60 per cent reduction in sales. Now feed is costly vis a vis branded products but quality speaks itself by diminished market share.
