PONDA: Ponda MLA Ravi Naik has urged the government to keep Traffic Cell and Ponda Police away from issuing challans to the traffic violators for time being till the COVID cases start declining.
On Friday, two COVID positive cases were reported in the town which included one lady police and one home guard. With this, the total COVID positive cases of police staff at Ponda Police Station have reached 20.
Meanwhile, the Ponda Police Station wore a deserted look. Except for important cases, it has been temporarily shut down for the public. The police are also not mixing with the people and are maintaining social distancing.
The Ponda locals, who were accustomed to seeing the police and traffic police busy in the town and highway roads issuing challans for various violations, missed the regular action for the past two days.
A local Umesh Naik said, “The police are to be appreciated for maintaining almost 100 per cent discipline on the town roads for the helmet riders. However, some riders who were scared of police, on Friday dared to ride without a helmet.”
It is learnt that the police are strictly maintaining social distancing after COVID positive cases found at Ponda Police Station. Almost all town roads were seen without police on account of precaution by maintaining social distancing.
The charge of Ponda Police Station was given to Valpoi Police Inspector Sagar Ekoskar, on Thursday.
