Govt wants to auction SEZ land at the earliest: Min

PANJIM: Industries Minister Vishwajit Rane on Friday said that the State government wants to auction the land taken back from Special Economic Zone (SEZ) promoters at the earliest to repay the bank loans.

The government wants to auction a fraction of the land parcels of the SEZ, which was taken back from the original promoters.

The government has constituted a monitoring committee and a selection committee to oversee the auction.

Speaking to reporters, Rane said the monitoring committee is looking into the matter and he wants the matter to be expedited of appointing a consultant.

“We want to auction the land and repay the loan as soon as possible,” Rane said.

The five-member selection committee, to be headed by industries secretary Nila Mohanan, will appoint a consultant 

to help Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) with around 5 lakh sqm of prime industrial land.
