VASCO: Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida on Saturday informed that Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte has assured him on the floor of the Assembly that the lease deed for the prime land leased out to ‘Shree Dev Damodar trust’ would not be renewed and shortly government would take over the possession of the land so that the same can be used for a better and larger public purpose.
The land was leased out to the trust formed by V M Salgaocar Brothers for 30 years for construction of an auditorium.
“Vasco is lucky that the land which was leased to a trust for building a town hall and was not taken back for so many years will be back in the possession of the government shortly. This prime land will now be used for some public project that would be taken up in consultation with the citizens,” Almeida said.

The MLA said that though this is a three-decade-old issue, but no Vasco MLA in the past took efforts to get back the prime land.
Meanwhile, when contacted Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte confirmed claim made by the Vasco MLA and said, “As assured on the floor of the House by me, we have already started the process to take over the possession of the land and by a month or two we will take complete the process of taking over the possession of the land.”
