PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday asserted that strict action will be taken against all officers responsible for the damage of 241 metric tonnes of tur dal and 10 metric tonnes of sugar in government godowns.

Sawant said “The government will not tolerate any kind of negligence and stern action will be taken against erring officers.” He said that the Secretary (Civil Supplies) has physically inspected all the godowns and added that if condition of some of the godowns is not good then it cannot be cited as the reason for the wastage of food grains.

“The food items procured by the Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department had to be utilised within specified days,” he said. When asked why the government did not allow lifting the damaged tur dal after auctioning the same in May last year, Sawant said, “I don’t know. I have asked for the report. Secretary (Civil Supplies) will submit the report.”

Govt has placed the then Director of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Siddhivinayak Naik under suspension.
