PANJIM: Stressing the need to maintain religious harmony in the State, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said that the government will not tolerate hurting the religious sentiments of the people.
Speaking to reporters, Sawant said, “There has been religious harmony for many years in Goa. But these days we have noticed that some people want to disturb it. Some people desecrated the statue of Shivaji Maharaj. Some Father spoke about Hindu religion while someone posted messages on Muslim religion.
Those responsible for desecration of Shivaji’s statue were arrested. Complaints were filed against those who made statements against Hindu Gods.
FIR was registered against those who made comments on Muslim religion. Any comment against any religion will not be tolerated.”
Sawant urged the people to have faith in the government and not to take to the streets if someone tries to disturb religious harmony through their act.
“We get disturbed and go to the police. I think this is not required. Will urge people not to take to the street, but have faith in the government. Goa is a touristic State and there is a need to maintain religious harmony,” he said.
