PANJIM: Pending government approval for the new menu under the mid-day meal Scheme, the Directorate of Education (DoE) has decided to continue with the existing cooked-food items for the pre-primary, primary and upper primary schools for the ongoing month, till June 30.
DoE Director Shailesh Zingade in an order issued on Tuesday said that the government has decided to supply mid-day meals to the students through government-approved self-help groups from June 15 to June 30, as the new menu is awaiting necessary approval.
The self-help groups are directed to provide cooked food items such as potato bhaji with pav on Monday, sweet moong usal on Tuesday, chole chapati on Wednesday, dry chana usal on Thursday, vatana bhaji and pav on Friday and Saturday ends with veg kurma and chapati.
The mid-day meal is supplied across 1,462 pre-primary, primary and upper primary schools, covering nearly 1.60 lakh students.
The average unit cost per child per day is Rs 6.11 for pre-primary and primary students while it’s Rs 7.45 for upper primary. The State contributes around Rs 3.13 per child per day for the pre-primary and primary categories and Rs 2.98 per child per day in upper primary schools.
