Govt’s help required to compete in the Asian Games: Katya Coelho

Katya Coelho who became the first female IQFoiler to qualify for the Asian Games in China after winning gold at the third trial in the IQ foil event in windsurfing said she required government help to secure an international coach for the right training to compete in the Asian Games. Katya also emphasised the need for more female athletes in India and that the govt should work on promoting the sport.  

Katya further elaborated that she had to compete with India’s top athletes to secure her spot and that her father, who is also a coach, solely trained her. Stating that windsurfing is an expensive sport, Katya stated that government help is required to secure an international coach for the right training to compete in the Asian Games.
