PONDA: Recalling the sacrifices and the bloodshed by freedom fighters to free Goa from the colonial rule, Adv Surel Tilve on Monday said if need arises, Goans will once again fight and stage a massive agitation against coal hub and coal transportation.

“The Goans will not allow coal transportation in Goa which would affect the health of people. The coal transportation will benefit to the few and majority would suffer. It will destroy beautiful environment of the State,” said Adv Tilve while addressing Goyant Kollso Naka rally in Marcaim Constituency.

The rally on bike wearing black clothes commenced from Kavlem and made way through Bandora, Durbhat and Wadi Talavalim. Before start of the rally, the protestors submitted a memorandum against coal hub and transportation and its proposed infrastructure to the Kavlem Panchayat Secretary.

Adv Tilve said, “Time has come for the Goans to decide whether they want coal or green Goa and it is sure that Goans will never allow coal hub in the State.”

He also questioned the government over delay in hearing Tenancy and Mundkar cases and expediting of land acquisition cases for coal infrastructure and railway double-tracking.

Gurudas Naik urged the Pondaitees to support the agitation for the health of future generations.

He said, “The State government expressing ignorance on coal project is sign of how much pressure it has from the Central government.  So everyone needs to come forward and support the Goyant Kollso Naka agitation so that Ponda Taluka’s fields, environment is not affected due to coal transportation from MPTthrough barges in Zuvari River which will be transported till Savordem, besides, the roads in Ponda.”
