MARGAO: As the XVII Exposition of the Sacred Relics of ‘Goycho Saib’ approaches, the Raia panchayat has resolved to develop an action plan aimed at maximising awareness about the event. During its monthly meeting, the panchayat decided to ensure that villagers are well-prepared and informed about the upcoming exposition and associated programmes.

Sarpanch Peter Quadros stated that the panchayat is also considering providing free transport services for devotees travelling to Old Goa. This initiative aims to facilitate easier access to the exposition of the sacred relics of ‘Goycho Saib’ and ensure that more villagers can participate in the once-in-a-decade event without logistical concerns.

On Tuesday, the panchayat deliberated on a joint application submitted by Panch Xavier Fernandes, Minguelina D’Souza, and Anthony Barbosa, a social worker and resident of Raia. The application requested that the panchayat take proactive steps in raising awareness about the upcoming exposition of the sacred relics of Saint Francis Xavier.

“The resolution was unanimously passed by all 11 members of the panchayat, deciding to chalk out plans for putting up banners and hoardings within the panchayat jurisdiction to raise awareness about the exposition programme,” said Sarpanch Quadros.

“We are also considering providing free transport services to the devotees, which will help them avoid traffic congestion at the venue. Detailed plans for this initiative will be finalised in the coming days,” added Quadros.

Meanwhile, in its body meeting, the Raia panchayat passed a resolution congratulating Anthony Barbosa, who was felicitated by the Goa Commission for

Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes for his outstanding contributions to the welfare of ST communities and tribal affairs.

The congratulatory

motion was moved by Panch Member and former

Sarpanch Minguelina

D’Souza, seconded by Deputy Sarpanch Godfrey

Oswald D’Souza, and was passed unanimously by all members.
