PANJIM: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar on Friday appealed to Goencho Avaaz Party (GAP) co-convenor Capt Viriato Fernandes to join the Congress and contest the ensuing Assembly elections from Dabolim constituency.

Speaking to the media at the Congress House, Panjim, Chodankar said, “Goencho Avaaz is very active and credible NGO fighting against various issues concerning Goa. GAP co-convenor Capt Viriato Fernandes enjoys good support in Dabolim constituency and I appeal to him to join Congress party.”

Chodankar said that during his visit to Dabolim constituency to participate in the ongoing protest against inflation and price rise, he received several requests from the people that both – Congress and GAP – should join hands to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Chodankar further said that more than 5000 Congressmen will be part of the ongoing process, which started from Friday to select party candidates for the Assembly polls due in February next year.
