GPCC demands SIT probe in sex scandal

PANJIM: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) on Thursday demanded investigations in the sex scandal involving a former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Minister is transferred to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) as the government was using police to harass those who exposed the sex scandal.

GPCC vice-president Sankalp Amonkar alleged that the Mormugao police are harassing people at the behest of BJP leaders. Innocent people are being summoned at the police station and the victim is attacking these people in front of the police.

Amonkar said that Mormugao MLA Milind Naik was forced to resign as a Cabinet Minister following alleged sex scandal. But now the government machinery and police force have been used to target selective people. Those who exposed sex scandal are been harassed, he charged.

Stating that the complaint filed by him against Naik on December 15 over sex scandal has not been registered by the police, he said that he will approach the High Court to seek direction and constitute SIT to investigate the case. BJP is pressurising us not to go ahead with the complaint,” he said.

He also released two audio clips of a phone conversation between the victim and the former Minister, where the latter promises to give her money every month.

Amonkar warned the Naik to expose him further if he continues to harass people. “I was expecting that the government will take action against him. But nothing happened,” he said demanding to know why police are not summoning Naik and interrogating him.

Amonkar demanded that police should check the bank accounts of the victim and her husband, who according to him, are benefited with few lakh of rupees deposits.

Amonkar said that it was surprising that the PSI who was booked under rape and cheating case was sent to Bihar to record the statement of victim.

Activist Shankar Polji said that the victim attacked him while he had gone to the police station. This happened in front of all the police, he said.
