MARGAO: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar categorically stated that the committee has dissociated itself from the statements made by Congress leader Trajan D’Mello against the leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat and Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco.
Trajan is the spokesperson of the Congress Party in Goa and though he did clarify that he was speaking not as a spokesperson but as a committed member of the Congress Party. Trajan besides demanding stern action against Digambar and Aleixo said that the duo would not be the Congress candidates at the 2022 Assembly elections.
It may be recalled that on April 10, the Fatorda Block Congress Committee organised a press conference to explain that there was no alliance between the Congress and the Goa Forward Party on record but there was an arrangement arrived at by the three MLAs representing different wards of Margao Municipal Council.
Speaking at that press conference, Trajan had raised a primary objection to the Leader of Opposition having an alliance with Vijai who is a member of the National Democratic Alliance even though the Congress is with the United Progressive Alliance at the national level.
Trajan had accused Digambar and Aleixo of gross indiscipline and demanded stern action against them. But what was shocking was his statement that Aleixo Reginaldo’s action gives the impression that he does not want to be the Congress candidate at the next elections.
“Digambar is just waiting to join BJP and was supposed to join that party when 10 of the Congress MLAs defected,” Trajan had said.
However, Girish said the GPCC has dissociated itself from all that Trajan had said and pointed out that Trajan was not speaking as party spokesperson at that press conference.
“I shall be calling for a meeting shortly to impress upon our members that they should not vent out their grievances before the media or in public but discuss it within the party for a solution,” said Girish while pointing out that whenever anything is said about him, he does not retort by going to the media but prefers to discuss it with the concerned person or at party forum.
