PANJIM: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) on Tuesday expelled its former spokesperson Urfan Mulla from primary membership of the party for six years with immediate effect for anti-party activities.

The expulsion comes two days after Mulla tendered his resignation from the post of Congress Minority Cell chairman and spokesman of GPCC alleging that the party is plagued by lack of unity among the senior leaders and of ignoring young leadership.

GPCC General Secretary Subhash Faldesai in a letter stated that Mulla has deliberately acted in calculated manner to lower the prestige of the party.

“You have shown disrespect to the Centre and State party leadership which amounts to serious indiscipline on your part. Such action of yours clearly establishes the fact that you have been indulged in anti-party activities and intentionally damaged the image of party,” GPCC stated in the letter addressed to Mulla.

GPCC President Girish Chodankar has approved Mulla’s expulsion and he has been expelled from primary membership for six years.

In his resignation, Mulla had alleged that the Congress suffers from lack of organisation, lack of direction and ideology and most importantly lack of leadership.

“I would like to mention that I am not happy with the functioning of party as there is no unity among senior leaders only fighting for their personal gains,” Mulla had said in his resignation.

“The Congress suffers from lack of organisation, lack of direction and ideology, and most importantly lack of leadership. The old guard in the party in Goa have brought nothing to the party and have miserably failed in decision making again and again,” he had said.
