GPRIU vows to support candidates backing devolution of powers to VPs

Extends support to young candidates in the upcoming elections

MARGAO: The Goa Panchayati Raj Institutions Union (GPRIU) has pledged to study and support candidates in favour of devolution of powers and has also extended its support to young candidates in the upcoming elections.
The decision of Goa Panchayati Raj Institutions Union gains importance as there is a lot of resentment amongst the panchayats and also the ZPs for not having been given enough powers to work for their areas.
“The Goa Legislative Assembly and the village panchayat elections are drawing close and there will be scramble for tickets, from the aspiring candidates to contest the elections. We, at this organization have, discussed the matter threadbare and have decided to support only those candidates, who support the devolution of powers to panchayats, preferably younger ones, so that they can become leaders of tomorrow,” said J Santano Rodrigues, President of Goa Panchayati Raj Institutions Union .
He further said, “Those who have proved to be non-corrupt or displayed anti-corruption tendencies, transparent and non-manipulative to benefit vested interests and have a vision to march his/her constituents on the path of equality, injustice and development will be supported by Goa Panchayati Raj Institutions Union .”
The Goa Panchayati Raj Institutions Union has said that before extending support, a detailed analysis of the antecedents of the candidate will be carried out without taking into consideration his/her political or party affiliations and only when they are satisfied, such support will be extended to the candidate.
