PANJIM: Goa Pradesh Youth Congress (GPYC) members on Thursday gheraoed State Chief Electrical Engineer and other officials of the Electricity Department and demanded that the BJP banners welcoming Home Minister Amit Shah to Goa put on electric poles be removed immediately.

The GPYC delegation was led by president Varad Mardolkar along with Saish Aroskar and Jana Bhandari.

“The double standards of the BJP government have been exposed. Just recently, the same department passed an order that all banners of political parties put on the electric poles be removed. And now we can see these banners on the same electric poles. This is a government department that is going against its orders,” said Mardolkar.

During the heated discussions between GPYC and engineers of the electricity dept, the former questioned if BJP had permission to put up the banners and if so the said permissions be shown to them.  Police were called to escort the GPYC delegation out of Electricity Department’s Panjim head office.

Speaking to media persons after their protest, Mardolkar accused the electricity department officials of lying and said that no permissions were granted to BJP to put these banners and thus it was imperative that the banners be removed on the same day itself. They said the banners of all other political parties had been removed.
