MARGAO: Nuvem Sarpanch Dr Breezy Barreto said on Saturday that the gram sabha had never objected to any traditional dance being orgnanised at Woodbourne and that they had nothing to do with the objections filed against the Christmas dance recently.
Addressing media persons along with some villagers from Goulloy of Nuvem, she pointed out that at the gram sabha held on August 21, 2016 where it was resolved to stop pool parties at Woodbourne as those coming for the dance were parking their vehicles on the road leading to dance venue causing the locals a problem and the men were also dancing with alcohol on the road and smashing alcohol bottles on the road.
Based on the gram sabha resolution, rave and pool parties at that venue were stopped following a meeting with the collector on October 7, 2016 while there were no objections to wedding receptions and other traditional dances like carnival or Christmas or New Year.
The sarpanch said the signatories to the recent objection to a dance at Woodbourne were not residents of Goulloy in the village and added that the panchayat or the locals had no objection whatsoever to organising Christmas dance there.
