MARGAO: Block Development Officers of Salcete have issued an order convening the gram sabha on February 28 of the village panchayats. All the 30 village panchayats in Salcete taluka failed to hold a gram sabha meeting in the month of January.
While BDO Paritosh Fal Dessai has convened the gram sabhas in all the 15 village panchayats coming under him, BDO Amitesh Shirvoikar has order the gram sabha in 14 village panchayat the only exception being Ambelim village panchayat that already had it.
It would be significant to note that except for a village panchayat that held the first gram sabha in 2020 most of the others did not hold any gram sabhas and in fact most of the panchayats functioned without even having their budget discussed or approved at the gram sabha.
However, Curtorim Village Panchayat will not hold gram sabha as it has been convened on March 7 instead.
Carmona Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge declared that his panchayat has not yet been served the order.
