CANACONA, APRIL 19
If RDA Minister Churchill Alemao is to be believed, the RDA-appointed 600 Gramsevaks at various panchayats will have to pull their socks and perform to expectations, if they want to continue with their jobs.
“I am told that most of the Gramsevaks appointed and posted at various panchayats are underperforming and not reaching out to the needy people. I am now conducting my own assessment and they will either be made to perform or will be shown the door,” RDA minister Churchill told a gathering of Cotigao villagers, who assembled at a cheque distribution function.
“I have also appointed a committee under Farrell Furtado to examine any misuse of NREGA schemes and other details pertaining to the scheme,” Alemao added.
On the occasion, the RDA minister distributed 45 cheques worth of Rs 20,000 and Rs 15,000 each under the Indira Awaz Yojna for residents of Cotigao village.
Five widows were also given cheques of Rs 10,000 each, while 132 free gas connection receipts were handed over to 132 BPL families of the same village.
Speaking on the occasion, Cotigao Sarpanch Rajesh Gaonkar said that another 200 families will be added to the BPL list of 350 BPL families, who have already benefited under the various benefits of this scheme.
Poinguinim MLA Ramesh Tawadkar thanked PWD Minister Churchill Alemao for hot-mixing the Ambeghat road which connects to Neturlim, and also requested the minister to divert more NREGA funds to uplift the poorer sections, as there are no industries or other earning sources in these areas.
Poinguinim Zilla member Daya Pagui, Khola ZP Krishna Velip, Cotigao Deputy Sarpanch and panchas, besides RDA officials were present on the occasion.
