PONDA: Rich tributes will be paid to Chhatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj, the legendary Maratha warrior king on the occasion of his birth anniversary which will be celebrated in the State on February 19 at Farmagudi Fort at 9.45 am. Various programmes have also been organised all over State to mark the occasion.
At the State level function at Farmaguidi, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will lead the people in paying tributes to Shivaji by garlanding his statue.
Dr Padmakar Gore, a historian from Pune, will deliver the key note address on the life and works of Shivaji. The various programmes include theatrical entry competition for schools, intercollegiate quiz competition on the life and times of Shivaji. Winners will be awarded cash prizes.
To mark the celebration a drama on the life of Shivaji will be staged on at eight different locations in the State from February 18 to 21, from 7 pm onwards. On February 18, the drama will be staged at Farmagudi; on 19, at Ravindra Bhavan, Sanquelim; on 20 Mallikeshwar Devastan at Collem; and on 21, at Dharbandora.
Similarly, the drama “Raigadala Jevha Jag Yete” will be staged at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, on February 19 at 7 pm.
