Grant WRIIL to frontline COVID warriors, demands GFP wing

PANJIM: Goa Forward Party’s (GFP) recently-constituted wing ‘Employees Forward’ has demanded that Goa government grant Work Related Illness and Injury Leave (WRIIL) to all the frontline COVID-19 warriors.

The Employees Forward has alleged that government is either denying Special Leave or keeping the government employees in the dark about the WRIIL even as doctors, nurses, health care workers and police among other frontline workers have been tirelessly performing COVID-19 duty while some were even infected with the virus.

“A circular be issued (by the government) immediately to all govt offices to grant WRIIL to all the doctors, nurses and police personnel who were allotted COVID-19 related duties and also employees of other departments whose services were engaged by the office of the Collectors for COVID-19 related duties and were infected of COVID-19 while discharging their duties,” reads a two-page letter by State Convener of Employees Forward John Nazareth to Chief Secretary.

The party’s wing raised another demand that COVID-19 frontline workers including those infected with the virus, who were granted commuted leave or earned leave or any other type of leave, be instructed to apply for the Special Leave (WRIIL) if so they desire for the period of their illness, hospitalisation or home quarantine.

The party has alleged that government is either denying the special leave or keeping their employees in dark about the provision. As per the 7th Pay Commission’s recommendation report, all three leaves are clubbed into one as WRIIL with full pay and allowances.
