Grants to 500 devotees visiting Lanka for Blessed Joseph Vaz canonization: CM

PANJIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said his Government will provide financial assistance of Rs 12,000 each to 500 devotees as grants to individuals who will be visiting Sri Lanka for the canonization of Blessed Joseph Vaz. The canonization is scheduled in the second week of January 2015.

Parsekar was speaking at the Liberation Day function at Parade Ground, Campal where he reviewed the guard of honour by the police contingent on Friday.
Calling upon the people to support the government’s initiatives, he said the government had initiated steps to provide specialized training to the police personnel and that the government will renovate Hutatma Smarak at Patradevi in two phases in which information pertaining to Goa Liberation Day will be made available. The renovation work will be completed within one-and-a-half year.
“The work will be taken up in two phases. In the first phase, all historic monuments will be renovated and in second phase, special informative galleries will be made available in which all information will be available for visitors,” he said. 
The Chief Minister also appealed to youth to stress more on employment generating business for which the government will provide assistance.
Announcing the government’s future plans and report card, the Chief Minister said that he was laying emphasis on development and generation of employment opportunities for youth and essential services like power, 24 hours water supply, non-polluting industries, quality education, and bridges wherever necessary, standard health services in rural areas, encouragement for art and culture and strengthening law and order in the State.
Parsekar said that the Government had provided Rs 113.63 crore financial assistance to mining dependents. According to him 7092 applications for financial assistance were received from truck owners out of which 6963 applications were sanctioned; 2502 applications were received from mining dependents out of which 1434 applications have been sanctioned. 
President’s Police Medal for meritorious services was presented to SP Arvind Gawas while Chief Minister’s Police Gold Medal for meritorious services was presented to head constables Sudesh Narvekar, Umesh Govind Pawaskar, Mangesh B Kajolkar, Shamir Nagnuri, and Saibaba Mehboob Sakli.
