In a pressing matter, the Goenchea Ramponkarancho Ekvott (GRE) has issued an urgent call for immediate action to address the prevalent issue of illegal basket fishing in the Zuari River near Vareg Inland, Chicalim. According to the GRE, a non-fishing migrant community has been engaging in this illegal fishing activity by employing unregistered fishing gear.
The GRE has voiced its concerns regarding the unlawful practices being carried out. They have alleged that the unauthorized fishing activities are not only detrimental to the local fish population but also pose a threat to the delicate ecological balance of the region.
In response to these allegations, the GRE has strongly urged the fisheries department to take decisive steps in combatting the issue at hand. Their primary demand is for the authorities to confiscate and seize all fishing gears and equipment utilized for such illegal activities in the rivers of Goa, with a specific focus on the Zuari River.
