GRE rejects fishing ban during BRICS

MARGAO: The President of Goenchea Ramponkarancho Ekvott (GRE), Agnelo Rodriguese said that GRE vehemently opposes the government’s blanket ban on fishing from October 10-17, due to the BRICS summit.

“Only 5-star resorts will earn in abundance out of this summit, but we the traditional fishermen who survive on daily fish catch will have to starve for seven days,” he protested.
GRE Joint General Secretary Olencio Simoes attacked the government saying, “This government seems to be the government of the rich and influential only, while the poor get trampled. We are not against BRICS summit, but let not this be an occasion for the government to exploit the hardworking people of Goa.”
GRE warned the government that they must compensate all those affected fisherpersons due to the summit or else the GRE would be forced to defy the ban.
