GRE urges Centre to exclude Goan rivers from nationalisation

VASCO: On behalf of the fishermen community in Goa, Goenchea Raponkarancho Ekvott (GRE) General Secretary Olencio Simoes has approached the Union government seeking declassification of nationalisation of Goan Rivers from National Waterways Act, 2016 along with 12 long pending demands of the fisherman of Goa.

VASCO: On behalf of the fishermen community in Goa, Goenchea Raponkarancho Ekvott (GRE) General Secretary Olencio Simoes has approached the Union government seeking declassification of nationalisation of Goan Rivers from National Waterways Act, 2016 along with 12 long pending demands of the fisherman of Goa.
A memorandum in this regards was submitted to Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Radha Mohan Singh and other central ministers including Minister of State for Tourism K J Alphonse Kannanthanam and Governor of Uttar Pradesh Ram Naik.
The memorandum was submitted at the Inaugural Function of 7th general assembly of World Forum of Fisher People (WFFP) at NDMC conference hall, New Delhi.
In their memorandum, GRE has request the ministers to peruse with Prime Minister Narendra Modiji to declassify the “unconstitutional and anti-national attempt to usurp six rivers that belong to Goan communities.”
By doing so, the memorandum said, “The government is trying to facilitate few private and foreign corporations who wish to abuse Goa and her rivers for coal transportation in order to reduce freight costs.”
