Grievance cell unlikely to work as even direct plaint to CM gets ignored: SCM

“If complaints addressed directly to the Chief Minister could not see any action, it is unexpected that any good will come out of this new version of complaints,” Margao Municipal Council Savio Coutinho remarked.

MARGAO: Reacting to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s statement on activation of a government public grievances cell, former chairperson of the Margao Municipal Council Savio Coutinho, claimed that there has been no action taken against the misuse of Rs 81 lakh of public funds, despite a complaint given directly to the CM, in April this year.

Sawant had stated that if one wants to complain about any government officer or any department, they can send their complaints via whatsapp or email, to the public grievances cell.

Coutinho, who is also the Convenor of the Shadow Council for Margao (SCM)said that they had directly complained to the CM against the misuse and misappropriation of public funds amounting to over Rs 75 lakh, towards the construction of a nallah behind the ESI hospital, Margao for the benefit of a real estate developer.

“The said work is shockingly estimated and tendered by the Water Resources Department, under the guise of improving the hydraulics of the existing nallah, when the actual purpose is to shift the existing nallah for the benefit of a real estate developer,” he had alleged in the complaint.

Coutinho alleged that the WRD has mischievously tendered this work on the basis of the falsehood that the nearby houses are in danger of flooding.  “If complaints addressed directly to the Chief Minister could not see any action, it is unexpected that any good will come out of this new version of complaints,” he remarked.
