PANJIM: The Education Department has set up the grievance redressal committees for rural and municipality areas to ensure adherence to the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009. Apart from registering grievances, these committees will ensure that the Act is implemented throughout Goa and will educate people about its cause.
Each committee will have an Assistant District Educational Inspector and Deputy Director (Education) to help receive and dispose of complaints within one month.
Section 32 of the RTE Act provides for the redressal of children’s grievances. Most of the states in India have already set up redressal mechanisms accordingly.
The notification prepared by the Directorate of Education is based on the notification issued by the Government of Gujarat. In the absence of these committees, all RTE-related complaints were referred to Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
