Grocery stores in Sanguem running out of ‘desired’ stock

However, home delivery system is being managed by MLAs, ex-MLAs and other politicians

Sanguem: While MLAs, ex-MLAs and other top level politicians have tonnes of grocery items to distribute to the public at a price of Rs 500 per packet, the non-availability of ‘desired’ stock of groceries items at the retail shops in the market has left the people questioning the logic applied by the Chief Minister  to keep the grocery shops opened 24×7.

The packets being distributed by politicians, reportedly includes two kgs of rice, one oil packet, potatoes, onions, puffed rice, pulses and other grocery items.

A shopkeeper in the town argued that there is no point of keeping the shop open, if there is no stock available in the market.

Given the relaxations in movements if one wants to purchase such essential commodities themselves, locals have called on the government to provide the grocery stores with the required stock.

The villagers in the remote villages who have no political affiliations and who are under compulsion to buy the grocery from the shops, are left to wonder as to from where to get the groceries from in such a situation.

Meanwhile, the hilly areas of Verlem and Salgini got some relief after the team of volunteers sent by MLA Prasad Gaonkar supplied packets of grocery items to the villagers.

Earlier, the Netravali villagers were provided with home delivery of rice and wheat from the fair price shops by the panchayat members.
