MARGAO: The Goan Seamen Association of India on Saturday joined hands with Bharatiya Navik Sena Union to provide better facilities to seamen across India.
The tie-up was announced by GSAI president Dixon Vaz and BNSU vice president Ajit Yeshwantrao, who also launched a smartphone app to help seamen. Vaz said that the two associations would solve the common issues of seafarers.
, such as increasing the pension for retired seafarers to Rs 5,000. He also said that the seafarer community was working towards creating a welfare centre at Betul and that such kind of facilities were important for seafarers
Yeshwantrao has also called for the creation of a seafarer facilitation centre near the MPT as well as other places across India.
