The Goan Seamen Association of India (GSAI) organized an
informative session in Quepem Constituency highlighting the promising career
opportunities available in the maritime industry. The event aimed to educate
and inspire aspiring seafarers to pursue a career at sea.
The event also witnessed several speakers who shared their
insight and experience in the industry. The event began with an opening remark
from Mr. Frank Viegas President of the Goan Seamen Association of India. He emphasized
the importance of seafaring as a career and welcomed all the attendees.
Shri. Altone D’costa MLA of Quepem Constituency highlighted
the significance of careers in the maritime industry and the various
opportunities available for individuals interested in a career at sea.
Furthermore, the chief guest emphasized the importance of developing the
necessary skills and qualifications to succeed in the maritime industry. He
emphasized that obtaining the required certifications and undergoing rigorous training
programs are crucial steps in ensuring a successful career at sea. The chief
guest concluded his speech by encouraging the attendees to take advantage of
GSAI for its very inspiring, encouraging programs of the promising career
opportunities available in the maritime sector. He urged them to invest in

Capt. Jerry Fernandes started by providing an overview of
the career options available at sea. He highlighted the various roles and
responsibilities, including deck officers, engineers, and ratings.
Chief Engineer Mr. Lenson Fernandes shared his experience on
board the ship and the challenges that have to be faced from TME (Trainee
marine Engineer) to Chief engineer.
Mrs. Sabina Dsouza director of Kamaxi shared her journey as
a woman in the maritime sector. She discussed the challenges she faced and
emphasized the increasing opportunities for women at sea.
Mrs. Sabina Dsouza encouraged aspiring female seafarers to
pursue their dreams and assured them of a supportive environment on board.
Dr. Anisha Cardozo, a maritime medical professional,
addressed the healthcare services available to seafarers. She emphasized the
significance of medical examinations and highlighted the need for mental health
support in the industry.
Mr. Parixit Pai Fondekar the founder of Kamaxi, a reputed
maritime company, shared their expertise and experiences with the attendees,
who discussed the challenges and rewards of a career at sea. He emphasized the
importance of acquiring the necessary qualifications and skills to excel in
this field.
Mr. Emiliano Fernandes who shed light on the offshore oil
and gas sector. He explained the roles and responsibilities of a rig superintendent,
including overseeing drilling operations, managing personnel, and ensuring
compliance with safety protocols.
Mr. Yogesh Angle Sea Scan Maritime Foundation discussed the
various courses offered by their organization. Furthermore, the speaker
emphasized the importance of obtaining the appropriate certifications and
licenses, which are necessary for working in the maritime industry. These
certifications ensure that seamen have the necessary qualifications and are in
compliance with international standards.
With the rapid growth of the shipping industry, the demand
for skilled professionals in marine-related roles has significantly increased.
