MARGAO: Goan Seamen Association of India (GSAI) President Frank Viegas met the Directorate General of Shipping, Amitabh Kumar, and handed over a memento as a token of appreciation for his dedicated service and support shown towards the welfare of the seafarer’s community.
GSAI also discussed various issues about seafarers and followed up on a prior representation that was sent to his office by them.
“One of these issues was that the Central government considers and gives a relaxation to those seafarers whose sea service experience is up to 11/01/2018 to be considered up to 31/12/2020-22 without SSC qualification, so they are eligible to apply for Indian CDC,” said Viegas.
“Another issue is that shipping companies must give flight tickets up to the seafarer’s hometown and the seafarer’s baggage allowance of 40 kg is to be retained while transiting to domestic flights,” said Viegas.
“We have also demanded pension or monetary assistance to all retiring seafarers which the Directorate General of Shipping is in the process of amending,” Viegas added.
