MARGAO: The Goan Seamen Association of India (GSAI) on Saturday said that the order of Director General of Shipping order is a great relief to the seamen of Goa after facing a five-year ban on Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC).
The GSAI thanked the Shipping Ministry for giving a light of hope to the seafarers by reducing the ban period to three years enabling many seafarers to apply for CDC and get employment.
The GSAI had asked for relaxation of the ban on the CDC for five years. The Director General of Shipping has drawn an order reducing the ban period from five years to three years. The seafarers who are beyond the ban period can now apply for CDC and get employment.
The GSAI thanked Union Minister for AYUSH Shripad Naik and the DG Shipping along with the Union Shipping Minister Mansukh Mandaviya for solving the issue of the seafarers.
GSAI President Frank Viegas said, “The seafarers were expecting for good news of the retired seafarers and widows pension but as per the departments concerned the process of the same is cumbersome and will take some more time before the pension actually begins and is released.”
