PANJIM: In a bid to clear its pending loan liabilities, the Goa State Co-operative bank (GSCB) is in talks with Cooperative banks in other States with a request to purchase the trucks from local owners.
The talks are being held with the Co-operative bank of Sindudurgh, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh. While the Cooperative Bank AP has expressed its willingness, Sindudurgh and Orissa have not responded following a mining ban there.
GSCB Chairman Ulhas Phaldessai said that many truck owners have approached bank with a proposal to sell their trucks to clear their loans.
There are over 791 truck owners accounts with loan liability of around Rs 57 crore in GSCB.
Over 12000 trucks are registered with the Directorate of Mines and Geology for availing benefit under State government sponsored scheme, wherein financial assistance upto Rs 12,000 per month is provided to the truck owners.
Government has already sanctioned the assistance to around 5051 beneficiaries while another 1500 applications are pending.
