PANJIM: The former chairperson of Goa State Commission for Women (GSCW) Dr Vidya Gaude on Monday urged the government to fast-track the process of appointing a new chairperson.
According to Gaude, the process of the fast-tracking process is necessary to resolve the heap of pending cases of domestic violence and other such cases.
She further informed me that her tenure as a chairperson has ended in March 2020.
“On an average, I get at least four-five calls per day from the affected people. I divert these calls to the lower staff of GSCW hoping that they will be able to resolve the issue of the victim but in vain,” she said.
Adding she said, “Since chairperson of the GSCW is the concerned authority to intervene and deal with the matters related to domestic violence and other cases, unless and until the new chairperson is appointed the number of such cases will keep piling up.”
“It has been almost four months since the chair of GSCW chairperson is waiting for its appointment. I appeal to the government to appoint fill this vacant post as soon as possible,” she added.
To know the status of its appointment Herald when contacted by the Director of Women and Child Department Deepali Naik said, “The file for appointing a new chairperson of GSCW has been moved to the higher authority for its approval. The government is the final authority to decide upon this appointment.
