MOPA: The Goa State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (GSEIAA) in a letter to the Chief Engineer of National Highway and Road Building, Public Works Department has asked whether any environment clearance (EC) is obtained for the Mopa link road project and requested to clarify if such project requires any environment clearance with seven days.

The GSEIAA issued the letter acting on the complaint filed by an affected farmer Baya Warak from Tulaskarwadi.
Baya Varak, General Secretary Mopa Vimantal Pidit Jan Sanghatana had complaint that trees are being cut, destroying the natural resources and endangering lives of wild animals, which are coming under endemic species for constructing of the link road for Mopa Aiport without obtaining the Environmental Clearance from the authority.
It may be recalled that Warkhand Nagzar village panchayat had issued show cause-cum-stop work order notice on February 24 but the contractor continued the work of Mopa link road with police protection under the direction of Land Acquisition Officer (LAO) Chandrakant Shetkar and Pernem Deputy Collector Rajesh Ajgaonkar on Friday.
A team of forest department officials also visited the site. However even after seeing the trees being bulldozed, they did not stop the work since “it’s a government project”.
