CANACONA: Amid increasing costs of onions bringing tears, Goa State Horticulture Corporation (GSHC) has stepped in to provide some relief to Goan housewives by selling onions at reduced 20 per cent rebate in the State.
The price of onions sold through vehicles visiting panchayat areas on Wednesday was Rs 37 per kg against the open market rates ranging between Rs 60 and Rs 70 a kg, while onions were sold at Rs 46/kg at various kiosks operated by GSHC all over the State.
GSHC Director Remy Borges on Wednesday launched the scheme near Shristhal Panchayat hall in the presence of a few panchas.
Borges informed that till prices of onion ease, GSHC will send its vehicles on weekly basis against the normal practice of fortnightly visits to Panchayat Ghars.
“Each household is eligible to purchase 2 kgs of onion which will be sold at 20 per cent rebate against the prevailing rates sold at regular kiosks operated through GSHB,” said Borges.
