MARGAO: Stating that salary paid to the government servant cannot be treated as confidential information, the Goa State Information Commission (GSIC) has directed headmistress of Government High School, Baina-Vasco to furnish the details of salaries drawn by one Francisco Xavier Fernandes to the concerned applicant.
“The denial of information was not intentional but due to misinterpretation of provision of law,” stated Vishwas Satarkar, State Chief Information Commissioner.
As per the order, one John Fernandes, resident of Utorda-Majorda had filed an application under the Right to Information Act 2005 seeking information from the headmistress of Government High School, Baina-Vasco and also with South Educational Zone, Margao to furnish details of salaries drawn by Francisco Xavier Fernandes, posted at ADEI, Margao in the financial year 2013-14 and his wife Laura Pereira, teacher, presently working at St Theresa High School, Mangor, Vasco.
The required information was denied to the applicant, wherein later he filed a petition before the Goa State Information Commission.
Further, the GSIC stated that the salary paid to the government servant cannot be treated as confidential information, and hence in the light of legal provision and considering the fact and circumstances, Satarkar directed the headmistress of Government High School, Baina to furnish the details within the period of 15 days.
