Finally taking cognizance of the dire need to upgrade the Hospicio morgue, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has directed Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation to prepare estimates for an additional 15-unit mortuary to be set up in Margao.
Kamat said that this additional 15-unit mortuary, besides the repair of the 10-unit morgue at the TB Sanatorium, Monte Hill will take the body storage capacity at Hospicio hospital to 43. “I have already given directions to GSIDC to prepare estimates for an additional 15-unit morgue for Margao”, he told newsmen after taking a weekly round of the Hospicio hospital on Tuesday noon.
Asked whether things have begun to fall in place at Hospicio after his decision to take personal interest in the functioning of the government hospital, Kamat said “it will take some time before things starts moving. I have set a deadline of July 15 to ensure that everything falls in place. I will not entertain any complaint from anyone after July 15”.
Asserting that he wants the officials on their toes, Kamat disclosed plans to visit Hospicio even at night time to see the functioning of the hospital.
“Presently, I make my presence felt at Hospicio thrice a week to solve minor problems. Today, we reviewed the situation and discussed the execution of the electrical and civic works”, Kamat said.
Replying to a question, he said the government has planned to install a new generator, besides power transformer. “The estimates are already prepared for the laying of cabling for the dialysis unit”, he said, adding that a junior engineer will be drafted to review the ongoing works at Hospicio vis-à-vis execution of the electrical works.
