PANJIM: Acting on pressure from local residents, Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (GSIDC) has ordered demolition of an illegal platform like structure at the Campal garden, which was constructed by the contractor without the knowledge of GSIDC.
Speaking to Herald, a GSIDC official said, “GSIDC is doing maintenance of the Campal garden and today it was brought to our notice by local residents that an illegal platform like structure has been built. Upon inquiry we have found that as per our plan this structure does not exist and has been done by the contractor who has been allotted the work.”
“As this structure has been built by the contractor by not consulting GSIDC it becomes illegal and I have given instructions to the contractor to immediately demolish the structure for which he shall not be paid,” the official said
Campal residents Patricia Pinto and Armando Gonsalves, along with a few others, had raised the issue of the illegal structure.
“As soon as we came to know about the structure we contacted former GSIDC chairman Siddharth Kunkolienkar but he was not aware of it. Immediately we contacted CCP but we got a reply stating that they were not aware and that GSIDC does not consult them in any project. As we contacted GSIDC, their representative visited the spot directing the contractor to demolish the structure,” Pinto said.
