GSIDC decides to close road for seven days, on eve of SSC exams

Students commuting to Curchorem exam centre will have to take 4-km detour; parents upset about inconvenience

CURCHOREM: The Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation’s decision to close the main road from Oddar-Xelvona leading to Curchorem market for seven days has sparked outrage among some parents of SSC students from Oddar, Xelvona, and surrounding areas of Curchorem. According to a notice issued by GSIDC, the closure is scheduled from March 31 to April 6 to lay the spandrel for the new bridge over the river at Oddar, which is currently under construction.

With the SSC Goa Board examinations set to begin on April 1, some parents have expressed concerns about the inconvenience and hardships their children will face due to the road closure. Students who reside within one or two kilometers from the Curchorem SSC exam center will be forced to travel more than four kilometers via Kakumoddi or Tilamol villages to reach Curchorem. This new route is longer and takes interior roads, putting students and parents under significant strain.

The closure of the main road leading to Curchorem market has come as a blow to students and parents alike, especially since the SSC examinations will continue until April 22. Some parents have urged the authorities to postpone the road closure until the examinations are over, to avoid further disruption to students’ academic progress.

One parent expressed concern, saying, “It’s unfair to put students through such hardships during the SSC examinations. Those who live near Curchorem SSC center will have to take a longer route, which will not only affect them, but will also cause inconvenience to their parents.”
