The Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) intends to complete the Miramar-Dona Paula road in all respects parking, landscaping and rectifying the concrete road by end of January 2018. However, there is no clarity on when the cycling track and jogging path will be ready and thrown open for public.
Started in February 2014 and completed somewhere at the end of 2016, the Miramar-Dona Paula concrete road was much in news. Along with concrete road, the project also incorporated pavements, sit-outs, parking, streetlights, cycling track, jogging path and landscaping.
While the pavements, sit-outs, streetlights are very much in place, there is no proper designated parking slots, with visitors parking their vehicles in haphazard manner leading to chaotic situation in the evening.
Cycling, tracking and jogging path are yet to be taken up. “The Miramar-Dona Paula road already has a dedicated cycle lane. It will be taken up soon. We want to first sort out all the issues related to the vehicular road,” a senior GSIDC official said.
“By January end, we will complete the road in all respects,” the official said without elaborating details.
GSIDC has already constructed a 1.6-km cycle track along the bank of River Mandovi from SAG to the Children’s Park. The Rs 12 crore project (the cycle track from SAG to Children Park) is being jointly funded by the State and Centre under the AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transportation) which stresses on non-motorised transport and development of open spaces.
“The idea is to have a cycle track right from Dona Paula to Ribandar. The Miramar-Dona Paula road already has a dedicated cycle lane,” official said.
