PANJIM: Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM) has demanded the sacking of the ‘sick government’ and declared it is set to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, by-polls in Shiroda and Mandrem constituencies, and the next Assembly elections.
“There are no ethical values left in Goa politics anymore. The leaders are hopping from one party to another. Today, Goa politics has become a money-making business. GSM will instead give clean politics and hence, we have decided to not only contest Lok Sabha and the next State assembly elections, but the by-polls in Mandrem and Shiroda constituencies too,” GSM Chief Subhash Velingkar told a press conference on Tuesday.
The two seats fell vacant after Dayanand Sopte and Subhash Shirodkar, quit as Congress MLAs and joined the BJP last year. Velingkar said the party has finalised candidates for the by-polls but their names will be declared once the election dates are announced.
The party also came down heavily on the failure of the government to tackle various problems like mining, unemployment, beach cleaning scam, etc. The former RSS head in Goa also reeled off a list of U-turns by the government on issues such as casinos and Medium of Instruction among others.
Commenting on the present state of affairs, Velingkar demanded that the government be dismissed rather than dragging the functioning in a poor manner.
“Some ministers are still not going to the Secretariat. We understand that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has a strong will power and seen working at different places but people do not like seeing him (struggle) in nose pipe. It is shame on the government. The sick government should be dissolved and election be held,” he said.
