GSPCB for transporting coal in containers

PANJIM: Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has decided to direct coal handlers at Mormugao Port Trust to transport the material through containers loaded in railway wagons instead of covering it with blue tarpaulin.
“Board has taken a decision to direct the coal handling agencies at MPT to transport the coal in the containers rather than loading it open wagons and then covering it with tarpaulin,” sources said.
The decision was taken after it was observed that despite coal being covered with tarpaulin, there are particles in the air leading to pollution. Also on occasion, the tarpaulin was found to be not properly covering the coal.
SWPL, Jindal Port and Vedanta are the leading coal handlers at MPT. SWPL is already facing a Board notice.
