GSPCB gets three months extension

PANJIM: The incumbent Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has got further three months extension with effect from April 1, after the State government failed to get the desired candidate for the post of its Chairman and Member Secretary.

The year-long term of the Board under Chairman Ganesh Shetgaonkar ended in December, last year. In January, the government had extended the term of the Board by three months, which set to be lapsed on March 31.

In a fresh notification issued on Wednesday, the Director of Environment Dasharath Redkar has granted further three months extension or upto the date of notification for the re-constitution of the new Board, whichever is earlier.

Herald had in its March 14 edition reported about likely extension to the Board.  The extension is been granted in a bid to maintain the continuity in the smooth functioning of the pollution authority.

Sources said the department will seek permission from the State Election Commission for issuing fresh advertisement for the post of Chairman and Member Secy.

“We had invited applications for the two posts in October, last year. Total eight applied for the post of Chairman and four for Member Secy. Only 3 candidates fulfilled age criteria of 56 years. Hence, it was decided that fresh advertisement, calling for more applications, be issued,” sources said.

The recruitment would be done by the Selection Committee on contract or deputation basis.
