MARGAO: Following the complaints filed about the poor condition of the Varca creek and that it is allegedly contaminated, the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) carried out an inspection of the creek and ponds located nearby to verify the contents of the water bodies.
The team collected water samples during the inspection and were also shown from where the creek was allegedly getting contaminated.
The residents along with social worker Warren Alemao, the complainant in the case were present for the meeting and they said they will wait to see what GSPCB test reports say. Alemao also complained about the foul stench emanating from the water body.
While the locals who had gathered there also demanded that an action plan be put in place to clean and restore the river, appeals have also been made to the Varca village panchayat to carry out an inspection as soon as possible.
“We as citizens need to work unitedly and protect the environment for the future of our children and protect our beautiful State of Goa that God has gifted us,” said Alemao while vowing to continue to monitor the Varca creek and see that follow up action is taken.
