Chairman Jose Manuel Noronha said that team would be sent for inspection to check how GMC treats bio-medical waste and other related issues. If any violations pertaining to Air and Water Act are found, then a notice would be issued to the hospital, he said.
However, GMC sources said that the solid waste management plant and the hydroclave were fully functional, but because of the huge amounts of garbage generated in the past week or so, some of the garbage remained untreated on that particular day. But was treated later on.
The board had issued a show cause notice to the GMC for creating a health hazard by burning bio-medical waste in an abandoned quarry in 2012.
Earlier, the Primary Health Centre, Corlim, had issued a show cause notice to GMC authorities on their poor garbage management at the complex under Goa Public Health Act in February 2012.
At a May 9, 2012 inspection, officials found that fumes from contaminated syringes, cotton waste and other waste were causing severe pollution in the area. However, GMC officials had denied it. Thereafter GMC installed an autoclave machine to treat bio medical waste scientifically.
