GSPCB Chairman Jose Manuel Noronha said the Board’s road map will have inputs of a biologist. The board will be the implementing agency.
The Board has called a special meeting in this regard on June 17, which will be attended by Panjim MLA Siddharth Kuncalienkar, Mayor Shubham Chodankar and citizen initiative NGO – Panjim First. The project is likely to be funded through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
The Board will also install 10 rigs in the creek in a bid to provide dissolved oxygen to the water, which is almosty nil at most points in the creek.
Directions have been issued to PWD to allow its treated water from the sewerage treatment plant (STP), located at Tonca, to flow into the creek. The Board’s preliminary study of the much-neglected creek highlighted siltation as a result of anthropogenic (human) activities. The observation also revealed that there is heavy discharge of raw sewage along its entire stretch. Stagnation of water due to decomposition of organic matter was also reported at many places.
The creek originates at Taleigao flows through Camrabhat, Tamddi Mati, and Tonca and continues to meander past behind the Military Hospital, Don Bosco School and ESG complex, from where it empties itself out into River Mandovi.
