Opposition Leader and Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao has alleged that steel units in Cuncolim, are causing crores of rupees of GST loss. In particular, he said Global Ispat and Shrada Ispat are producing extra steel and do not disclose it. The GST loss to the state govt is about Rs 2 to 3 crores per day, he claimed. He also pointed to the intense pollution caused by the fishmeal and steel units. Industries Minister Mauvin Godinho said the issue has to do with different departments and said he would write to other departments and streamline the functioning of industries.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that an inspection had been ordered of the Cuncolim industrial estate units on Thursday itself and action will be taken against the revenue loss caused by certain industries, through extra production.
